Each dedicated tester allows you to accurately screen the coin or bar's dimensions against the corresponding issuing mint's exact specifications. The mint-specified expected weight is also printed directly on the tool for quick reference and comparison using accurate digital scales (not included).

How to test using the Four Stage Screening Method:

✓ DIAMETER — Place the coin inside its precision-sized diameter gauge, There are three levels for each sovereign type to assist with accurate checking of the diameter against Royal Mint confirmed specifications.

✓ THICKNESS — Pass the coin through the corresponding thickness slot

✓ WEIGHT — Weigh the coin and compare with the clear specifications shown on the tester

✓ MAGNETISM — Use the integrated strong rare earth magnet to screen for certain deep-filled or layered counterfeit coins, including examples made with a base-metal core and gold outer layer.

✓ Checking these characteristics together confirms whether the coin matches the key physical specifications expected of a genuine coin from the corresponding official mint. Because a coin’s dimensions and weight are intrinsically linked to the density of the metal used, it would be extremely difficult for a counterfeit made from the wrong metal to pass the four stage screening approach — making this a highly effective method of identifying suspect coins.
